To make a domestic telephone call, simply pick up the hand set, insert a ¥10 coin (¥100 coins are accepted, but no change is provided) or a telephone card, and dial the number.

Gray digital telephones have jacks that allow you to connect portable computer.

International Calls from Public Telephones

You can make international calls from green and gray public telephones, marked “International Call”

You can use coins or prepaid telephone cards for international calls, but some public telephones accept only coins.

Each international phone company issues its own prepaid cards for international calls.

These cards can be purchased at convenience stores. Note that each card has its own code number, and you cannot simply insert the card into the card slot. The instructions are printed on the card itself.
